Travelog London Paris - Day 5

Wake up quite early in the morning.. Aku rasa seronok sebab dah tak de tukar hotel lagi pas nih..so boleh sepah suka hati sampai hari balik  Fikir pasal breakfast - oh ya baru ingat hubby dah beli semalam bagel dgn cream cheese dekat Sainsbury.  My kids love bagel.  So we buy 2 bags of 10 bagel cos us £1 each and a tube of cream cheese (sinfully creamily gooood..) for less that £2.  So our delicous breakfast cost us less than £4.  Isn't that great.  Actually if you compare dollar to dollar of income againts cost of living, food in London is quite reasonably price.. So, for £4 for breakfast for 6 is cheap meh...

Actually our plan in London is not that rigid.. Although we roughly have the itenary but we just take our time to enjoy the moment together in this land of snow (I'm capturing part of the lyrics of 'one thousand million smile' revisit after History channel air the Sudirman's documentary.  The song that he sang at Royal Albert in London - One thousand million smiles, I bring to you across the miles, In my land of sunshine, Or in your land of snow....)

Today we plan to go to tourist hotspots around London, then to have lunch at Malaysia Hall at Bayswater, then we will be going to the famous wax museum of Madame Tussauds. 

We started our day with London Bridge.  Cari punya cari, jumpa la Tower Bridge.  Dah tu cari2 London Bridge baru perasan, memang kami tersilap sangka Tower Bridge dgn London Bridge..

Depan Gereja Westminster Abbey - mesti glamor perkahwinan diraja yang selalunya berakhir dengan perceraian ni kan...

Dah sudah tu, nak pergi la Malaysia Hall pulak nak makan tengahari..tapi sebelum pergi makan, kena tengok dulu pukul berapa boleh masuk Madame Tussauds.  Cek2 kat bag, rupa2nya tiket yang aku purchase online tertinggal kat hotel... Alamak, merah la telinga hubby kena balik hotel balik.  So tengahari terpaksa cancel lunch plan kat Malaysia Hall, kita orang balik hotel - dah balik tu solat dan makan terus la kat hotel..Dusss berlaku kesilapan teknikal di situ...Settle makan ngan solat, keluar lagi...Kami kena sampai kat Madame Tussauds pukul 3pm.  Cheap ticket (£100 for 6 people), jadi ada time2 yang dia allocate kan untuk kita masuk.  Seronok wei kat sini, jumpa celebrity bagai..Aku dah pernah masuk sini 23 tahun yang lalu, so celebrity yang ada kat sini memang yang famous masa tu la kan tahun 1988..Now, 23 years later, yang masih kekal sehingga kini tinggal Brittish royal family dan Michael Jackson, itu pun patung2 baru sesuai dengan umur mereka sekarang.  Yang lain2 semua dah dilupuskan.. anyway bebudak memang enjoy giler posing ngan artis dan orang2 femes yg tak dak perasaan nih. (mak budak tumpang sekaki)

Yang paling best kat Madame Tussauds ni ialah 4-D show - show ni last sekali sebelum exit door, short movie pasal superhero.  The best I've seen so far.  Movie ni banyak adegan2 yang menjolok mata... Maknanya kalau pedang tuh dia hunuskan, masuk terus menusuk ke mata kau.  Kalau dia tembak tu terus masuk mata korang.. Dan kalau kaca pecah tu, rasa macam kaca tu berderai ke dalam mata korang.. serious...best giler..

Habis lawatan ke Madam Tussauds hari dah gelap.  Maghrib kat sini pukul 4:45pm.  Sofia ni pulak, kalau dah hari gelap, mata dia jadi automatic ngantuk.  Spoil plan nak shopping malam.  Sekarang London dah macam KL, kedai tutup lambat.  Pujuk2 OK la.. hari masih awal, kita orang menapak ke Oxford Street untuk berwindow shopping.  Aku pergi scan dulu barang2 apa yang boleh dibeli.  Dah jadi kebiasaan aku, index gila shopping menurun bila gi dengan family sebab nak make sure bebudak ni dapat beli barang dia orang dulu.. Aku punya barang last priority, hubby lagi la...tak masuk akal langsung shopping2 ni...

Dalam 2 jam lebih kita orang kat Oxford Street then balik hotel, rehat dan tidor terus...

Day 5 - Mengulang pengalaman aku ke Madame Tussauds 23 tahun lepas..Malam tu mimpi jumpa Michael Jackson..(yang ni kira hantu dia la kan..)

Travelog London Paris - Day 4

Tidur awal semalam tapi sebab penat, semua orang rasa macam tak larat nak bangun.  Tapi disebabkan kita org book breakfast time pukul 7:00 a.m. kena bangun juga (anyway subuh habis pukul 8 lebih).  Kat Kyriad Hotel ni, kita kena reserve breakfast hour so that tak crowded at the same time.  Since I read at Tripadvisor that if you go later than 8:00 a.m it will be crowded, we take earlier one.  So lepas solat, dengan tak mandi pun kita orang pergi breakfast...Masa kami masuk orang tak ramai.  Memang tak de la nasi kerabu ke, nasi lemak ke..but the choice of bread and spread is abundant.  Macam2 jenis roti dan menimbun di letaknya..Berbaloi sungguh dok kat Hotel ni dengan breakfast melambak dan bayaran yang kami bayar.  Susah nak jumpa hotel harga macam ni yang breakfast included.

Lepas breakfast, aku ajak hubby dan bebudak pergi lake.  Aku tengok review kat Tripadvisor pasal kawasan belakang hotel ni cantik, ada lake bagai, so kami pergi jalan2 kawasan lapang belakang hotel..Mak aihhh..cantik sungguh..kalau musim spring ni pasti lagi cantik..So kami posing2 la sekejap dalam kesejukan tuh...

All these pictures were shot at the lake area just behind the hotel.  The building with black roof is breakfast hall.  The rest is rooms.  The vicinity is so country, so beautiful..

Balik bilik dan bersiap, dah dekat pukul 10 kami tunggu shuttle bus untk ke Stesen Marna-La-Vallee untuk ke bandar Paris.  Ramai bebudak sekolah yg datang on school trip dok sini naik bas nak pergi Disneyland.  Hai..Seronoknya kalau dapat pergi Disneyland dua hari.  But what to do..we only have 2 days in Paris.  We need to cover Paris city today  amazing race style as we will be back to London at 5:20 pm. We purchased the unlimited ticket ride for Paris Metro - we pay around €6 per person. 

We board the train to Paris city, and stop at first destination Arc de Triumph, and a bit of overview of Champs Elysee.  Arc de Triumph is a place to honour the fighter during French Revolution and Napoleon War.  Nearby is, Champs Elysee i.e. grand shopping area.  As I am not here for shopping, so I just walk on the main street only.  Nampak la boutique high end left and right - lets just passed those..

Arc de Triomph - ada mamat dari Algeria yang jual painting kat sini tolong snap, dapat la semua orang masuk gambar.   Sempat aku bodek dia ni, painting eiffel dapat 20 euro..untuk ori cat minyak - memang murah..

Champs Elysee ni tempat shopping yang high class..mana mampu wei..

From here, we take Metro line to station Bir Hakim, one of the nearest to Eiffel.  Nama stesen ada jugak nama2 islam.  France have the most muslim compare to other european countries..Tapi dek kerana islamophobia kebelakangan, macam2 benda government France sekat..pakai jilbab pun dah tak boleh...

Keluar stesen jalan sikit dan nampak Eiffel Tower dari jauh..rupa2nya kecik jer Eiffel nih... tinggi sikit dari typical telco tower kat Malaysia.  Tapi structure nya memang classic.  Dan warna berkarat tu lah yang menariknya Eiffel.  Romantik sungguh tempat ni.  Love is everywhere.. that warm feeling, kenapa entah...Kami menapak dalam kebekuan dan kami disambut oleh pak-pak hitam everywhere menjual souviners.  Dia org menjual ala-ala illegal indon meniaga kat Jalan Masjid India. Samada dia org bawak dlm beg, atau bentang atas sehelai kain.  Souviner yang banyak kat sini ialah keychain Eiffel dgn Eiffel's replicas .  Kawan aku Kak Mi cakap, beli souviner kat sini murah, kena tawar gila2, but remember to keep close watch of your wallet.  Dia orang ni memang licik bab2 pick pocket... Anyway, sebab regenya murah2, belum naik tower aku dah buat sedikit rampasan harta...(rata2 pak hitam ni leh cakap melayu bila bab tawar menawar).

Nampaknya rezeki musim winter - orang tak ramai beratur.  There are 2 ways of going up, either by stairs or lift.  As the queue is so short most people take lift - cost around €60 for all of us.  It has 3 platform. That day only platform 1 and 2 is opened, while level 3 - right at the peak is closed for reno.  We spend a bit of time here..it has magnificient Paris view, with the classic outlook, lining up by River Sienna..we felt like we traveled back in previous milleniums.

Di bawah eiffel.  Kat belakang tu, nampak peniaga pak hitam tengah menjual souviner - barang pegang kat tangan dan sambil berdiri, kadang2 dia kejar kita paksa suruh beli. Kalau murah aku layan jer..

Its already lunch hour by the time we finish with Eiffel.  I remember my vendor friend, Aida told me that there are many halal food outlets near Notre Dame.  So we headed for Notre Dame.  Notre Dame (bermaksud 'Our Lady') adalah salah satu gereja katolik tertua dunia - I think nearly 1000 years of age.  Di sebabkan kami semua lapar, jadi ambik gambar jer kat sini.  Gereja yang berciri gothic ini sangat cantik, tambah sekali dok kat tepi sungai Sienna.

Lepas bergambar, kami terus berjalan ke lorong2 belakang - iaitu lorong yang membelakangkan laluan keluar dari Metro.   Jumpa banyak kedai2 souviner, lepas tu masuk lorong yang nampak banyak kedai makan.  Agak ke dalam baru nampak kedai bertanda 'Halal'.  Lega rasanya jumpa kedai makan halal.. The shop belongs to a turkish, they served many varieties of Kebab with loads of fries for €4.  Drinks for additional €1.  Such a big portion - semua orang kekenyangan macam dah tak larat nak jalan dah.. Tapi perjalanan mesti diteruskan ke destinasi terakhir sebelum kami kembali ke London.

We headed for next destination Louvre Museum, or better known as Musee du Louvre in french.. This place is  a magnificent art museum full of grand art, one of the best known is the original Monalisa painting by Da Vinci. This is the masterpice of Louvre.  People come from all over the world to be there.. Exhibition area is underground.  This is the place where movie 'The Da Vinci Code' is shot (some scene).  Good news is, it is free every 1st day of the month, and the bad news is, its close on Tuesday - and too bad.... So we just walk around the area.. nampaknya impian nak jumpa Monalisa secara berdepan tidak kesampaian.  Will there be next time...?

We ended our amazing race Paris at around 4:00 pm..Secara keseluruhannya, berjalan ke Paris ni macam travelling back to previous mellinium...there are many buildings built in the last century and it is well preserved.  Memang best dan satu hari memang tak cukup.  Satu hari ni sekadar snap and go saja...


Eurostar ke London akan berlepas pada 5:20 petang.  Jadi kami harus berada di situ 1 jam sebelum untuk urusan immigration.  Proceed for immi check.  We were greeted in bahasa melayu by the Brittish Immi.  Pandainya dia cakap melayu... best thing is, they really want to speak malay.. tak mau cakap orang putih..

During journey, everbody fall asleep after another freezing and tired day but a rewarding-once-in-a-life-time-experience.  By 6:20 pm (-1hr from Paris), we arrived London St Pancras station, getting our bags at left-baggage store, proceed to Travelodge Covent Garden, our final Hotel.  We stay here £100 for 2 family rooms and we will be staying here till the end our trip.. As usual, first thing I did upon arrival to the hotel is cooked the rice... Get everybody's stomach fill-up, then go to sleep to recharge the body for next London discovery...

Travelog London Paris - Day 3

Day 3 - Today we are heading to Paris - to Paris Disneyland to be exact.

Early in the morning we check-out from Travelodge Royal Scot St. Pancras.  Just after 4 am we walk down to St Pancras.  We immediately proceed for baggage scanning, and then proceed for immi check by France officer.  Check was smooth, and we waited a bit at departure hall for the train to arrive.  During the waiting, we met 3 Malaysian guys came for holiday and we exchanged few friendly notes.  They are perhaps in their 30-40s.  Mungkin pergi sama2 laki2 lagi seronok dari pergi dgn famili - no strings attached..

At around 5:00 am, we were allowed to board the train. Exactly 5:20 am the train departed.  Eurostar is one of the fastest way travelling from London to Paris - just above 2 hours.  I actually wanted to experience travelling under the water of English Channel.  But I slept all the way, so I deduced that it wouldn't be any different than travelling below Sg. Klang by Putra LRT.  We booked the train ticket 3 months in advance, so price is quite reasonable - around €69 per adult tickect.  Cheaper for children.  Train is fulled.  Its Monday, perhaps many Londoners on weekend break going back to Paris for work on Monday.  Most dressed in business suites.  There is cafetaria in one of the coach. So we bought some drinks and croissants for breakfast.

We arrived Paris at Gare Du Nord Station at 8:50 am.  Paris time is +1 from London.  No more immi check here.  We went down to its underground called RER and Metro.  Since we are going to Paris outskirt to Disneyland, we need to take RER.  It cost around €6.  At 10 we arrived at the Disneyland Station or better known as Marna-la-Vallee.  First thing when we were out of train - its snowing a little.  Yes..its freezing cold in Paris.  And kids get to taste a little of snow.. macam salji renyai-renyai gitew..hu..hu..hu..sejuk wei...

When we go out of the station we can see many people already queeing for the security check at the entrance point.  They are not that strict on food.  So my nasi impit and sambal daging balance from breakfast in London pass thru easily... Good thing it was not too crowded that day, maybe its Monday.  Such a good feeling I have.. Disneyland at last...Teringat balik zaman2 muda2 dulu masa kat US, memang suka sangat gi Disneyland..Macam tak sangka pulak dapat datang dgn famili...Ala2 terharu gitew...

Interesting encounter - A young couple asked my son to take their pic.  My son obliged.. After that, boyfriend said:"Gracias", girlfriend said:"Terima Kasih" and they are 100% mat salleh, maybe spanish.  I have many of these encounters, and I'm surprised that there are many european that I met in this trip actually knew we are Malaysian and spoken to us in BM without even asking "where are you from?"

There are two parks here i.e. Disneyland Parks and Walt Disney Studios.  We got both parks entry for the price of one - its winter offer.  As winter operating hours is only upto 6:00 pm, we have to be selective because there is so many rides to cover within one day.. I have the pride to choose the first ride - Space Mountain.  During my uni days, I pay homage to LA Disneyland every year and I love this ride the most..Its like reminiscing those good old days.. Queue was short so we were on in no time.  After the ride, then the reality set in...I got this nauseatic feeling.  I took a deep thought for a while...I knew can't be doing this anymore..I'm old..I can't live up the memories anymore.  Soon after this ride, I took a rest at cafe theathre having tea while watching disney classics on big screen.  Hubby and kids continue to explore. Later on we have big lunch of Fish N Chips that cost €8 per plate.  Then we took few more rides before we moved to Walt Disney Studios next door.  Ni aku paste la sikit2 gambar kat sini..kalau nak tengok banyak, come to my place..



Tempat ni dia panggil USA Main Street - kalau masa summer kat sini dia buat parade.  Masa winter ni ada mini parade jer..

In front of the famous castle.  Kat dalam ni la ada dancing dolls yang pakai baju from various country pastu nyanyi lagu 'It's a small world' dalam berbagai bahasa..Masa aku kat uni dulu, aku suka ride nih.. anak2 aku ni generation Y - so bende ni macam biasa2 jer bagi dia orang..

Gambar bawah ni - cuba tengok la dia punya air pancut tu sampai dah beku..mula2 meleleh makin slow, lama2 beku jadi stalagtite-stalagmite, memang Paris ni sejuk sungguh...

We closed the day after few more rides in Walt Disney Studios.  Dah dengar announcement park tutup baru kami keluar.  The good thing about coming to Disneyland in winter and weekdays, org tak ramai, naik ride beratur sgt sekejap.  The minus part is its freezing cold here in Paris, so you need to warm up inside every other hour.  Operating time is shorter, no fireworks at the closing time and there is only mini parade...  Nevertheless we ended our day in this dreamland happy although tired and freezing...

There is free shuttle bus took us from Disneyland to our next hotel - Hotel Kyriad Disneyland.  I found this hotel from booking.com and read the review from Tripadvisor.  Its the cheapest among the Disney Hotel chain i.e. €70 per room inclusive of buffet breakfast.

Bilik aku, hubby and the girls - the boys take the double room next door.  The room is moderate in size.  Clean with country setting, so its very cozy..I like this hotel..itu yang tidur tak hengat..

We're so tired, so all of us fast asleep by 8:00 pm.  Suprisingly nobody wants dinner after heavy loads of Fish N Chips at Disneyland...

Day 3 - Malam tu, aku mimpi masih dok kat dlm Disneyland lagik...

Mimpi yang dah jadi nyata masuk balik dalam mimpi....best!!

Travelog London Paris - Day 2

Day 2 plan is to visit Sunday Market in London.  Plan asal nak check-out awal2 from Terminal 5, tapi macam biasa la, nak bersiap untuk 6 orang bukannya senang. Yang ni siap, yang tu nak masuk bilik air, etc...So dah dekat pukul 9 pagi baru kami checkout.

But before we explore the Sunday market, we need to leave baggage at St. Pancras International where we will be taking Eurotrain to Paris.  As we are taking first train out to Paris at 5:20a.m Monday morning, we need to stay nearby St. Pancras. No public transport to bring us at 4:00am to St. Pancras if we stay far from the station.  All bags were left at leave-baggage center, only things that needed for Paris were brought in to the next hotel i.e. Travelodge Royal Scot St. Pancras.  Itu pun bajet mengulang baju sebab musim winter tak perlu tukar baju sangatkan...

Ini la St. Pancras International - station for train from London to other parts of Europe.  Ada leave-baggage service kat sini, harga dia agak mahal, hari pertama £8 per bag, hari seterusnya £4 - kami akan ambil balik beg yg tinggal kat sini ni bila dah balik dari Paris nanti.

Sudah tinggal beg, kami turun ke underground station King Cross untuk ke Petticoat Lane - salah satu Sunday Market kat tengah bandar London.  Sampai bawah, baru tahu rupa2nya Sabtu/Ahad banyak laluan tutup sebab maintenance.  So during weekend, be ready for underground downtime.  Jadi kami kena pusing jauh sikit untuk sampai ke Stesen Liverpool Street. 



Station Liverpool Street ialah perhentian untuk ke Petticoat Lane.  This station is one of the main station for inter-city train travelling in UK

Petticoat Lane berada di belakang bangunan Liverpool Street.  Walaupun tak semeriah 10 tahun lepas barang kat sini memang murah (by UK standard).  Dulu lebih meriah sebab ada jual folk-art macam teapot set, dulang bagai.  Ada juga kedai pinggan mangkuk macam queen anne dan barang2 tembaga.  Painting and leather bags also aplenty and cheap.  But now, there's not much variations of goods sold here.  Sekarang ni paling banyak pun pakaian, beg dan baggage.  Ada juga few souviners stall.  Anyway harganya murah, so dapat juga buat rampasan harta kat sini..

Winter accesories banyak dijual di sini.  Same brand 'Thinsulate' for glove and cap sold in Malaysia for over RM50, is sold for £3 here.  Being Malaysian, I bargained and get it 2 for £5.  Dirt cheap.  Menyesal beli kat Malaysia. Winter coat can get as low as £10.  Kat Malaysia banyak ratus la jugak for good jacket.. One thing to always remember, kalau dtg UK, beli winter  jacket or accesories kat UK not in Malaysia.  You can save a lot, even if you purchase at Oxford Street..

Cheapest and good quality souviner in London also can be found here.  All for £1.  For the same quality, it can be £2 to £3 at other places in London.  Rugi aku tak beli banyak kat sini.  Maklumlah first day, not yet in the mood for shopping..

Lepas dah pusing2 kat Petty Coat Lane, perut semua orang dah berbunyi.  Dekat sini ramai muslim, dari penjual kepada stall2 makan.  Cuma yang aku musykil ada juga stall mat salleh jual hot-dog tulis Halal kat depan stall dia.  Tak berani aku nak makan, macam tak leh percaya jer.. Sebabkan bebudak sejuk menggigil, kami terpaksa masuk makan kat restoran..Agak class jugak la tempat ni..so memang mahal la kan..kedai ni orang Pakistan punya, nama dia Bundu Khan.  Satu meal lebih kurang £8 - £10.  Jangan la kali 5, tak makan nanti...

Lama juga la dok tunggu nasik dia masak, very slow...bab servis ni tak leh lawan kedai mamak - tu belum cakap pasal harga lagik..

Lepas pusing2 lagi kat market..kami balik ke St. Pancras dan check-in ke Hotel Travelodge Royal Scot St. Pancras.

Kedudukan 600m dari King Cross/St. Pancras tu kira jauh jugak la untuk bebudak ni nak kena menapak (esp. Sofia ni lemah sikit bab menapak) ..tapi inilah hotel yang boleh la dikira walking distance sebab pagi2 sepe'i esok dah nak kena ada kat St. Pancras. Hotel ni pun OK jugak.  Kami book 2 family room.  Yang satu bilik tu punyalah besar macam one bedroom suite.  Harganya hanya £45 untuk dua bilik.  Murah banget... Puas hati..Malamnya aku dah malas nak keluar.  But the guys keluar pergi tengok2 makanan..the girls penat, awal2 dan landing.  Kena rehat - esok jam 4 pagi kami dah kena menapak ke St. Pancras nak naik train 5:20 pagi... Seperti biasa, aku tido ayam jer la kalau esoknya travel pagi.  Sindrom  takut oversleep...Ishh tak dak ubat penyakit nih..

Day 2 - letih angkat-angkat beg.  Tapi seronok hari ni dapat sneak preview London dan pergi market - bila balik KL nyesal pulak shopping sikit2 jer kat sini..
